About Danielle Cox
Danielle Cox is a contemporary artist living in Toronto. She is originally from South Africa but has lived in England, Singapore and now Canada.
Danielle’s passion for travel is reflected in her work. Inspired by the dramatic as well as the serene, Danielle takes on different styles to reflect these feelings. Weather often plays an important role in her work.
“Is it about to rain? Or is the sun finally shining through? There are no clear cut answers from my work. I want people to feel a bit lost. Lost in their thoughts and lost in the mood.”
Her Ireland and South African series combine vivid colours, bold shapes and strong lines to create the dramatic country.
“I want to portray how I 'felt' while I was surrounded by this dramatic beauty and sense of space and freedom.”
In contrast, her Arniston paintings are quiet, soft and textured. Danielle was inspired by the juxtaposition of the harsh lanscape and the kind softhearted people living in Arniston.
“I was filled with a sense of history and time standing still in Arniston. I wanted to capture every moment like a photograph. I was inspired by old, plate photography.”
Danielle works in oil, acrylic, and mixed media.
“I have no favourite medium, it all depends on the paintng and where I want to go with it. I find using a different medium for different paintings keeps me on my toes and gives me a sense of freedom and adventure. ”
